Katy Youth Football - Spring 7on7 League

Katy Youth Football is hosting their third annual 7on7 Spring Football season in 2012. We are currently accepting online enrollments. Practices begin on March 1st . March 1st is the earliest our insurance will cover the boys. Games will be played as double-headers on consecutive Friday nights in April and early May. The regular season is 4 weeks long with the 5th week hosting the playoffs between the top four teams in each division and championship game. The games are scheduled for Friday nights at 5:30PM & 6:30PM on April 13th ,20th ,27th , May 4th , and May 11th.

All games will be played at Seven Lakes HS.

Typically, 10-12 kids per team is ideal. Although, some teams choose to have a few more, or less. We are having divisions for 2nd through 7th grades.

Teams can be made up of friends, baseball teammates, neighborhood kids, "all-stars", etc. All teams must have boys within the same grade. The only exception is that boys can play up only one grade. No one is allowed to play down a grade.

KYF is different than other leagues as we supply two TASO certified referees for each game and a central time-keeper. We supply on-site security and EMTs ready to assist as needed.

7on7 is very much like backyard football. It is a passing only game and one hand touch anywhere to down the receiver. Basically, 5 boys go out on pass routes against 7 defenders. The defense can play man-to-man defense or a zone. The center is not an eligible receiver and the QB must pass the ball down field within 6 seconds or the play is dead. The game is played on 45 yard fields with a first down every 15 yards. The offense only gets 3 downs to make a first down.

All boys love 7on7 because of it similarity to backyard football. It doesn't matter what position you play in tackle football, every player will get to go out on pass routes.

The enrollment fee is $100 per child. Each child will receive a dry-fit shirt and mesh shorts.

Mike Heitman ( mikeheitman@yahoo.com ) and Skip Baskerville ( skipbaskerville@sbcglobal.net ) will be the points of contact for KYF 7on7 going forward. Please direct all additional questions to them.

Below is the link to sign up. Each head coach needs to register on the site. Have your team sign up to play for your team name (you can make up whatever team name you like, first come, first served) or for your head coach's last name.

The 7on7 head coach's son (only one) gets to play for free. As it stands, please register and pay for the head coach's son and he will be refunded once confirmed as the head coach.

Send in your expected roster to Mike and Skip, and they will make sure the boy is placed on your team.

From time to time, we have boys sign up that do not have a team and we may be able to provide you with some extra kids if you request. Boys will not be placed on a team without the consent of the head coach.

I hope everyone of you will strongly consider fielding a team this spring.

This is a great opportunity to delegate this to an assistant coach, or a very interested parent, if you don't have time to coach or are just plain worn out.
